Gtuner with Mac (my setup)

Postby Dephault » Thu Aug 04, 2016 5:57 am

hey guys,

just thought I would make a quick post to anyone who owns a Macbook and would like to use it with Gtuner.
There may be other posts out there as well but this is my setup and hopefully can help others.
Basically all you need is a Virtual machine, which is an application that emulates another operating system that may or may not be native to your computer. For example, running Windows 10 on a Macbook Pro etc.

You will need two programs to begin:
a Virtual machine,
Windows 10.iso

The virtual machine i use is VMware Fusion and is available to buy from here
http://store.vmware.com/store/vmwaus/en ... oCvZ7w_wcB

I would definitely not condone downloading this for free from Piratebay if did not wish to purchase this:
(google Piratebay)
Windows 10 is available from here:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softwar ... ndows10ISO
Just select the right version. I use '10'

During installation, it will ask you to select installation method, where you will select 'install from image or disc' then navigate to where you downloaded the windows 10.iso file. and follow instructions.
From here you are able to use the Macbook as a normal Windows 10 computer and download Gtuner.
Also, make sure to download the anti-virus protection that pops up so that you have a basic level protection.

Here's a video to help you out through the steps.

A free alternative to VMware fusion is VirtualBox. That's the one I use with my mac so I'm able to use gtunner.

I've been using VirtualBox for quite long time now. It works pretty well.

I just bought the TitanOne and tried to get the Gtuner to work with VirtualBox 5.1.18 on my Mac OSX-10.12.3. I used the Windows7 VDisk from the IE browser testing website (https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/m ... #downloads) that Microsoft runs, specifically IE-11. I had to add the Oracle VirtualBox extension pack to get the USB 2.0 to work. I then shared the USB in the VM configuration and it came up just fine.

Trouble did not start until I tried to upload GamePacks onto the TitanOne. Apparently the switch into programming mode does something to the way the device registers on the USB bus, and it would claim that no USB device was connected.

So how did you VirtualBox folks work around that?

Mind you, I had trouble the first time on my wife's old Win7 laptop too, it was not recognized during programming, but the second time around, it work just fine.

On VirtualBox settings you need redirect two USB devices, the Titan One (PID:ID 2508:0003 - Identified by Virtual Box as "ConsoleTuner Titan One [0100]"), and the Titan One Bootloader (PID:VID 2508:8003 - Identified as "Unknown device 2508:8003 [0120]"). When the device enters in programing mode its ID changes to 2508:8003.

To VirtualBox detect the Titan One Bootloader, connect the device in your MAC USB port and force it to programming mode, by pressing the reset button on the back of the device, until the display show the letter 'P'.

In the following link you can find a very nice tutorial about how to redirect USB devices to a VirtualBox guest OS.
